Back in 2009, a good friend of mine lived in Monterrey, California. On occasion, she would come to Truckee, CA to visit us. One such occasion happened to fall on my birthday.
Truckee, CA is a bit of a backwater sort of place. Not, you know, like Arkansas backwater, but California backwater. The town has a few wine tasting salons and a health food shop, but no amazingly awesome all-vegan bakery (I’m a lactose-intolerant vegetarian).
So, my good friend was coming up for my birthday and I said, “Sure would be nice to have me some vegan carrot cake from the Black China Bakery in Santa Cruz. Mmmm, yep, that sure would be nice.”
(Hints like that are not considered rude when we are talking vegan carrot cake!)
And just like that, Happy Indulgence was created.

I would eat that cake. Yes, indeed, I most certainly would.
It was good. Gone by the end of the day. Procrasinator and I have a date to visit a bakery in San Francisco, you should come too!
